This course is aimed at students who want to understand how computers work and want to gain skills in programming them. With computers used in virtually every aspect of modern life, it is not surprising that the course is an excellent choice for those who see their eventual careers in computing – or those who enjoy problem solving and want to be able to exploit computers in other fields. The course will include practical training in a programming language and using the language to create programs. In the second year you will carry out a project of your own choice – analysing requirements, and then designing, programming and testing a system. Alongside this, the theory work will make sure you understand the basics of hardware, software and communications which together form the basis of computer systems.
Average points score of 5.5 from your best 8 GCSEs OR 6 GCSEs plus 1 vocational qualification (equivalent to a maximum of 2 GCSEs and 10 points) including English at grade C and Maths GCSE at grade B.
