Course Description
The course is designed for students already working, or wishing to work, in computer programming, systems analysis, database analysis and design, technical support or software engineering. This course is also suitable for students who wish to pursue the HNC as an entry qualification to a university degree course in computer science, software engineering, or information technology. A total of ten units will be studied and include the following units: (Core Units) Computer Platforms; System Analysis; Programming concepts; Database design concepts; (Specialist units) Software development project; Visual programming; (Option Units) Data analysis and design; End user support; Project management; Work experience; Professional development; OOP programming; Java programming; Web site design. The option units offered may be subject to change based on demand. In order to be eligible for an HNC students must pass all ten units.

Assessment method
Assessment is by unit assignment, project work and report. There are written tests for some units. These tests are additional to the unit assignments.
Entry Requirements
BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or an AVCE with Computer experience; One 'A' level plus computing experience gained; Other Higher qualification, which includes computer programming; Evidence of several years' working experience in computing or software development; Access to Higher Education, specialising in Computing. In all cases, applicants must be interviewed before a final offer of acceptance is made.
