Computer science is concerned with the specification, design, construction and use of computer systems; it embraces subject areas such as software engineering, hardware architecture and design, information systems, communications, graphics, simulation and modelling, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction; mathematics provides the essential theoretical tools used in the increasingly numerate science of today and is continually developing new ones to solve problems at the forefront of research in many disciplines.
Level 0: Computer software; computer hardware; 2 pure mathematics modules; and 2 applied mathematics modules; level 1: computer programming; computer architecture and communications; 4 modules from pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and operational research; level 2: modules in computer science and pure and/or applied mathematics; students usually take data structures and algorithms and at least 1 other computer science module at level 2; plus at least 2 mathematics modules; level 3: modules in computer science and pure and/or applied mathematics; students normally take 6 modules at level 3 but not more than 1 of the project modules.
