This degree examines the ways in which machines can be designed and developed to display human characteristics; students study the analysis, design and construction of knowledge-based and expert systems, as well as those based around the use of neural networks.
Year 1: Semester A: all students take the same 4 modules gaining a sound foundation in core areas of computing: computation, data, programming and e-media; semester B: students study computer science modules: programming, networked systems, computer architecture, and a further option; for this degree students take a double module in the principles of robotics and cognition. Year 2: Students take 3 core double modules; 2 of these core double modules are in further programming, and operating systems and networks; the 3rd core double module is a professional development exercise, which allows students to put their knowledge and skills into a professional context; in addition students choose a 4th double module from a list of options. Final Year: Students undertake a 2 module project, study 2 or more modules in artificial intelligence, a further module in a specialist area and take a module in professional issues.
