The computer has become an essential tool in graphic design. This three-week intensive course combines a thorough grounding in all the software commonly used by graphic designers together with tuition which focuses on the idea as well as on the visual content of the work. Students are encouraged to develop ideas on paper prior to developing designs on the computer. The aim is to enable students to make the computer work for them rather than becoming a slave to its power. Software to be covered includes: Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and, if applicable, Adobe Illustrator. The course is suitable for students preparing a portfolio for entry to BA or MA courses, or for practising designers from the UK or overseas who need updating in new technology. No computer knowledge is necessary.
