The modules offered provide a basis for a range of careers or further education in community work and associated professions. The specialised pathways will also assist students wishing to become involved in voluntary or paid relief work overseas; students wishing to become involved in youth work projects or to undertake professional training as a recognised youth worker. There will be a minimum of 140 hours work-based learning in each year. Work-based learning will help you to understand, in practice, how community and youth organisations make decisions, and help you learn how to work alongside colleagues. You are encouraged to reflect upon your own practice, analysing both your skills and your future learning needs. In the past students have visited community and youth work projects in Cornwall, Bristol and London as part of the course. The course offers the student an academic framework in which to reflect on professional practice. Many of the modules are led by people with current or recent professional experience in a variety of areas relating to working with people. The course has excellent links with community and youth work organisations in Cornwall.
GCSE Level: Normally English and Maths at Grade C or above. Together with one of the following: A minimum of 80 tariff points at A Level or equivalent Level 3 qualification, Access to Higher Education: Considered on an individual basis, Applications from mature students without academic credentials will be considered on an individual basis, National and Advanced Diplomas in a relevant subject are accepted as a progression to a Foundation Degree and HND. Prospective students will be required to successfully complete a criminal records bureau check CRB. Please note, additional costs may be incurred for necessary CRB check and if any equipment, resources or trips need to be purchased.
