Course Description
Prior to undertaking the LLM lawyers from non-Common Law jurisdictions may take a Certificate in Common Law. This is a 1-term course starting in September prior to the LLM programme which commences in January. The course provides an introduction to the basics of the common law system and to areas of substantive English Law, including Contract, Torts, European Law and Trusts.
Course Fees
Fees for 2007 are £2920 (one term of study) and in 2008 these will be £3,050. Course fees are subject to change and you are advised to check the current details with the course provider before enrolling on this course.

Assessment method
Taught courses: Taught courses comprise two elements: 80% examination (sat at the end of the Summer term) 20% continuous assessment, evaluated on the basis of participation in seminar, any presentations made, tests required to be completed, and any submitted written work. Research: If you choose to undertake a research element, either a dissertation or three research papers, you will be required to submit your work by the deadline, within word count and in accordance with stipulated conventions.
Entry Requirements
Normally you will be required to have: A first or second class honours degree (or equivalent) in law or in a degree in which law is a significant element and / or substantial relevant work experience. A good command of the English language both written and oral (IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent).
