Clinical Pharmacology PgDip: The course equips students for careers developing and expanding current knowledge of drugs; the course provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of drug discovery and development, mechanisms of drug action, preclinical and clinical trials and regulatory affairs; the taught part of the course extends over 2 terms, consisting of 100 hours of lectures and 15 days of practical classes in addition to tutorials, seminars and clinical tuition; there are also practical laboratory sessions and visits to clinical departments and clinical research areas within Grampian University Hospitals Trust, allowing students to gain a wider understanding of clinical issues; there is also a visit to a pharmaceutical research company, giving the students an insight into the industrial aspect of clinical pharmacology.
Semester 1: induction course; molecular pharmacology; drug metabolism and toxicology; therapeutics; computing; statistics; semester 2: pharmacovigilance (option); pharmacy topics (option); pharmacokinetics drug development to evidence based medicine, 'omics' and research methods (option).
