The great strength of classical & archaeological studies is the hugely interesting and varied range of subjects it includes; literature, mythology, drama, archaeology, art and architecture, history, languages and philosophy; and the way they all connect in the study of ancient civilisations; the Hispanic programme gives students the opportunity to explore the languages and cultures of Spain and Spanish America while developing language skills; students can study Hispanic studies whether they have an A level or GCSE in Spanish, or not.Stage 1: Archaeology and archaeologists, or introduction to archaeology; Greek democracy and empire, or the last century of the Roman republic; Greek theatre and public debate, or literature and patronage in the age of Augustus; introduction to Hispanic culture; either Spanish: beginners or Spanish: post A-level; 1 or 2 (depending on language level) from: the modern Spanish-American short story; the modern Spanish novel; modern Spanish theatre.Stages 2-3: Extended essay; special subject; 90 credits from chosen pathway of classical literature and culture or ancient history or archaeology; long essay; either Spanish post A-level or Spanish advanced I; Spanish advanced II; options.Year spent abroad between Stages 2 and 3.
