Course Description
This course provides research supervision in Classical Literature, Ancient History and Archaeology, whilst enjoying close links with related subjects such as Drama, Comparative Literary Studies, History, The Visual Arts and Theology. This reflects the broadening of Classical studies in parallel with changes in traditional teaching. Research groups include:- Archaeology - The general area of research is Britain, NW Europe and the Aegean, and research interest focuses on the following: Britain and Europe in the first millennium BC; later prehistoric pottery and artefacts; Sarnian pottery; the archaeology of the Roman frontier and the Roman army; Roman medicine; the archaeology of Britain and NE Europe in the Roman and post-Roman period, up to 1100, especially in relation to artefact studies, regional styles and social identity; the archaeology of medieval settlement and landscape. The archaeology of the Transmanche area is a new and distinctive development which may offer a taught MA in the future, in addition to current opportunities for research - Classical Studies - The general area of research interest is Classical history and literature, and research interest focuses on the following: Classical narrative literature, especially novel, myth and folk tale; the cultural and religious history of the Roman world, especially saints, holy men and holy women; ancient historiography and biography; social and economic and financial aspects of the Roman Republic and Empire; Late Antiquity, especially literature; Achaemenid Persia.

Course Fees
The standard fee for 2007/08: £3350 (full-time); part-time pro-rata. Course fees are subject to change and you are advised to check the current details with the course provider before enrolling on this course. Fees vary according to the subject chosen (especially in respect of Science & Management disciplines); details of 2008/09 fess will be available from the provider from March 2008.

Entry Requirements
A second class honours in Classics, Latin, Greek, Ancient History, Archaeology, or equivalent.
