Course Description
The Classical course concentrates on western classical music, offering specialist one-to-one tuition, plus a range of ensemble activities designed to develop both technical skill and musicality. There are frequent performance opportunities. Principal study is available in: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Guitar; Flute, Oboe, Clarinet,Saxophone, Bassoon; Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba; Percussion; Piano, Organ, Harpsichord; Voice; Composition. The minimum weekly package is made up of: Principal study lesson 60 minutes; General musicianship class 60 minutes; Chamber Music 30 minutes; Choir 45 - 60 minutes; Orchestral training* 60 - 150 minutes*(audition required). Options: Extra time for principal or second study lessons; One-to-one composition lessons; A/S and A2 Music classes.
Assessment method
All students are required to undertake an annual assessment in the form of a public performance and a technical exam. These exams are intended to monitor the development of students as they progress through the Junior Conservatoire and to provide a focus to each year's work. In addition to our internal assessment, Associated Board exams are held in the Conservatoire at the end of each term.
Venue Description
Accommodation may be available to those undertaking certain learning opportunities and the institution will provide details. Guidance and advice may be available for all aspects of student life. Facilities/Support are available for students with restricted mobility.
