Are you interested in the ancient Greeks and Romans? You might have been inspired by reading Greek myths or by a visit to the Colosseum at Rome, or you might want to look into the literature and history of civilisations that have so profoundly influenced our own. Aspects of these civilisations are studied through ancient literature in translation and other evidence. At AS we study Homer’s ‘Odyssey’ which describes the adventures of Odysseus as he returned home from the Trojan war, and the last days of the Roman Republic, including the assassination of Julius Caesar, seen through the eyes of Cicero. At A2, we study Greek Tragedy, the earliest and most influential drama in world literature and Virgil’s ‘Aeneid’, an epic myth that celebrates Rome and its first emperor, Augustus.
Average points score of 5 from your best 8 GCSEs OR 6 GCSEs plus 1 vocational qualification (equivalent to a maximum of 2 GCSEs and 10 points) including English and English Literature GCSE at grade C. No previous knowledge of a language or of the ancient world in general is assumed.
