Students study the operations of the non-profit sector, which includes charities, social enterprises and advocacy organisations; the course covers a theoretical and empirical understanding of the relevance of civil society as a public sphere between markets and the state and its implications at the local, national and international level; the program also addresses the role of civil society organisations in service delivery and advocacy at all levels of governance, including in contexts of development; it includes specific training for UK-based service delivery organisations and provides skills for understanding and working in the context of international (and national) advocacy organisations.
