Course Description
This degree has been developed to provide graduates who can organise effective relief during international disaster incidents. Currently, there are a limited number of specialised personnel who have the relevant experience to react to such events. Students not only develop their organisational and management skills but also gain an extensive knowledge of structural, geological, water and materials behaviour. Students study the fundamentals of structural behaviour and search and rescue techniques before progressing to disaster logistics, advanced building technology, contingency planning and emergency repairs and remediation. A programme of field courses and lectures by external speakers enhances theoretical knowledge and helps to contextualise learning. Graduates can expect to find employment in a variety of disciplines, including aid and advisery agencies, engineering design consultancies, local and national government bodies and civil and military services.
