Course Description
This degree emphasises the development of a broad range of civil engineering knowledge and key skills. Students cover aspects of civil engineering, from the design of large structures to the financing and management of major projects. The multidisciplinary approach reflects that used in the construction industry, where colleagues consult and work closely with professionals from other engineering disciplines. Students gain the skills required by today's employers through a variety of traditional and contemporary methods. Modules cover such topics as field surveying, mechanics of structures, structural design and water engineering. Many students opt to take up a professional placement between the second and final year to complement their academic studies and enhance their employment prospects. The course has excellent career potential for its graduates. Typically, they might find employment working as project supervisors/managers or civil/building engineers working for contractors, consulting engineers, architectural practices or local authorities.
