Citizenship involves studying the relationship between the individual, the law and the state and the nature of identities. It looks at issues such as equality and diversity, and human rights, as well as the working of the democratic process. Underpinning the course is the requirement for students to be actively engaged in a range of citizenship activities and to record their involvement using the Active Citizenship Profile. Activities might include campaigning on a local, national or international issue by joining a demonstration, producing a leaflet, poster or website, organising a petition or writing a letter. You’ll need to have an active interest in society and social change. You must be willing to work with others, using problem solving and critical approaches to issues, problems and events.
