Year 1: Chemistry of carbon-based compounds; energetics and spectroscopy; bonding, structure and periodicity; chemistry laboratory; an introduction to analytical and forensic science; examples of optional credits include special topics in chemistry; modern aspects of physics of particular interest to chemists; mathematics for scientists. Year 2: Organic chemistry; inorganic chemistry; physical chemistry I; molecular structure and energy levels; instrumental analytical chemistry; free choice (any unit from the university course catalogue subject to course prerequisites and school approval). Year 3: Organic compounds: synthesis and properties; physical chemistry II; inorganic compounds: structure and function; analytical chemistry; vibrational spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and sensors; forensic and analytical science; examples of options include research project; special studies in chemistry.
