The course has both practical and theory based elements which include the preparation and cooking of Meat, Fish, Poultry, Vegetables, Soups, Stocks and Sauces as well as food safety, hygiene and teamwork. You will train in the college’s new kitchens as well having theory lessons to underpin what is learnt in the practical classes. You will also complement these Chef skills with 'front of house skills’ by serving customers in Buckley’s Restaurant & Bar. You complete 9 qualifications in total over the 2 years: NVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cooking; NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking; Btec Introductory Certificate in Hospitality; Btec First Certificate in Hospitality; Level 2 Food Safety Award. Key Skills in Application of Number, IT, Communication and Working with Others. You will need to buy 2 full chef’s uniforms, safety shoes, knives and restaurant jacket. at an approximate cost of £180.00.
