In this course, students will study areas including professional image in a salon/ career opportunities, shampoo and conditioning, styling women’s hair and styling mens hair, plaiting and twisting hair, colour in the hair and beauty sector, the art of dressing hair, the art of colouring hair, salon reception duties, working with others, colour hair using temporary colour. After successful completion of the course they may progress to VRQ level 2 diploma in hairdressing or seek employment as an apprentice junior in a salon, spa, health farm or cruise ship.
Students must have two GCSEs at grade E or above, preferably including Maths and English or an equivalent Level 1 qualification in literacy and numeracy. They be required to purchase a salon tunic, a basic equipment kit and textbooks and pay a fee towards the cost of consumables.
