The art market is challenging, complex and fast moving. The Buying Art Now course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview for visual artists and individuals wishing to establish an art gallery or work in the visual arts sector. The course examines the British and the International Art Market from the perspective of an artist or a young gallery. We will explore the funding system for the arts and look at the roles and relationships between different kinds of players such as commercial galleries, auction houses, museums, collectors, artists and critics. We will discuss the rise and fall of art prices, the reasons for market volatility, droit de suite and other tax implications. In addition, we will visit a Corporate Collection and examin urban re-generation and public art commissions.
Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English.
