About this course

The BSc (Hons) business studies with psychology degree can be completed in 2 years full-time (accelerated), or 3 years full-time, allowing students to fit studies around their lifestyle; our degrees are taught by a mix of staff from academic and professional backgrounds, enabling the course to give students a feel for what working in business is like in a variety of disciplines; students can view lectures online, giving flexibility to organise timetables to fit around individual needs; the business studies with psychology is a degree designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills for a career in business as well as an awareness of the role of psychology in the business decision process; the programme combines a comprehensive grounding in subjects which are at the core of the modern business world as well as an introduction to psychology and the principle research methodologies used in that discipline; within the 2nd year of the programme, students have an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a range of functional business areas such as marketing; it develops intellectual and practical skills that supports students both as learners and as future or existing managers.

Modules

Stage 1 compulsory modules: Economics and business world; quantitative techniques for business; organisational behaviour; business communication; introduction to psychology; research methods in psychology; electives: Business finance; business communication; financial accounting for business; human resource management; extra credit project(s). Stage 2 compulsory modules: The theory and the practice of management; management accounting for business; marketing and stakeholders; social psychology; cognitive psychology; electives: Corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions; financial markets and institutions; learning and development; portfolio management; business law; entrepreneurship and innovation; extra credit project(s). Stage 3 compulsory modules: Business integration project; competitive intelligence and research; operations management; development psychology; organisational psychology; electives: Strategy in context; applied marketing and decisions; leadership - styles, levels and consequences; financial derivatives; alternative investments; extra credit project(s).
