The course considers how businesses are now expected to conduct their operations nationally and internationally with responsibility and accountability to their stakeholders and wider society; it examines how this expectation is increasingly framed in terms of human rights obligations and addresses questions of human rights emerging in the business context; it explores the imposition of labour standards and examines the issue of accountability for corporate abuses; it also considers the development and application of the concept of corporate social responsibility in different business contexts such as the branding of goods, and examples from the pharmaceutical industry.
