The course equips students for a career in this rewarding and varied profession; students study a broad range of relevant disciplines that give the practical knowledge for carrying out surveys; making property valuations; assessing repairs and preparing specifications and plans for building work; learners develop knowledge of the regulations and laws relating to buildings; land and property and learn the management skills relevant to the profession; students may have the opportunity for short-term work placements as part of the studies; learners can carry out interdisciplinary work with students on associated courses; students may also have the opportunity to take part in site visits; students learn the practical skills of surveying and property management including how to undertake surveys; value property; analyse building defects and make recommendations for their repair; the course delivers understanding on how to prepare plans and specifications for building works; calculating costs and working out budgets; students learn about building regulations; the law relating to land and property and the importance of maintaining and managing built assets to ensure they are used efficiently; learners develop the relevant applied business skills including understanding contract processes; communications; information technology and the necessary management skills for the industry.
