Course Description
This is an intensive course in advanced digital and information-based architecture design. It is aimed at students, architects and mid-career professionals who seek to develop their knowledge and skills in the latest digital and other machinic design systems through a coordinated and strategic introduction to the conceptual and intellectual implications of these new and increasingly powerful tools. It offers participants an intensive and focused introduction to the basics of digital modelling, scripting, the flow of projects between software applications and experimentation with the ways in which the design processes related to these applications can be integrated with machinic modelling and production facilities, including laser-cutting, CNC, and other hard forms of output. The two-week course will be broken into a series of modules, each led by designers and experts who will introduce participants to the use of the basic tools within different applications, as well as to the techniques that allow for interactive, responsive, data-driven design approaches. Short, intensive exercises will culminate in the making of a final workshop design project that demonstrates the ways in which the different tools and operations explored in the course can be integrated and tested in terms of participants' individual design interests.
