This course is designed to promote continuity, coherence and progression within the study of Biology. It covers three units that include: molecules and cells; organisms and biodiversity and assessment of practical skills. Molecules and Cells unit deals with molecules, enzymes, DNA technology, viruses, cells, cell physiology, continuity of cells, and tissues and organs. Organisms and biodiversity unit deals with transport and exchange mechanisms in plants and mammals, adaptation of organisms, and biodiversity with an emphasis on local contexts. Assessment of Practical Skills deals with the internal assessment of practical tasks and by supplementary questions on examination papers.
Participants should have a minimum of four GCSEs at a grade C or above, one of which must be English Language (or equivalent or the specified IELTS or TOEFL score of 5.5).
