In the course, students develop their understanding of the linguistic and cultural resources and needs of minority ethnic and bilingual learners; it equips students with knowledge about language description, and the ways that bilingual learners acquire and use language in urban schools; it emphasises the ways in which teachers can best support the language and literacy development of children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds; it covers the needs and circumstances of the range of bilingual learners from nursery level to young adults.
