Benedictine Study And Arts Centre Overview

Benedictine Study And Arts Centre Overview Image
The Benedictine Study and Arts Centre, founded in 1992, is a work of the Benedictine monks at Ealing, whose monastery is on the same site. The Centre is renowned for its courses in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Faith and Culture, Latin and New Testament Greek as well as its art gallery's exhibitions relating to Art and Faith.

The Centre has an excellent reputation as a welcoming place that encourages learning and intellectual growth. It provides opportunities for students to participate in a variety of study experiences, in a friendly environment, where small classes allow them to interact more fully and benefit from individual attention. The number of students per term is approximately 80.

The Benedictine Study and Arts Centre also has an interesting history. The building it occupies, a large Victorian house surrounded by beautiful gardens, was built in 1877 by George Bartholomew, famous for his publishing of maps of the UK. In addition, Ealing is a leafy suburb offering a wide range of amenities such as shops, restaurants, cinemas, parks, all within walking distance of the Centre, ideal for pre- or post-class relaxation.

What's on offer
The Centre has worked, since its foundation, to establish an identity that guarantees a learning standard equivalent to, at least, first-year university level; one that aims at providing access to all and especially to those without formal qualifications.

Tutors with relevant higher degrees, are carefully selected for their ability to work with a wide range of students from all walks of life; Study Skills and EFL courses are also offered, thus providing equal opportunity to adults of all ages (18 plus), with or without prior formal qualifications, to access further and higher education should they wish.

As well as taught courses in Theological Studies, Pastoral Studies, Biblical Studies, Church History, Interfaith, Languages (incl. Russian) and the Arts, the Centre offers Distance Learning courses in Theological Studies/Christian Spirituality up to PhD level, accredited by the Sydney College of Divinity, N.S.W. It also offers personal/correspondence tuition for the University of London BD/DipTh Programme for external students.

In addition the Centre runs, each year, either an EFL Summer School in July (one month's duration) or a Latin Summer School end August/beginning September (one to two week's duration).

Facilities include: Wheelchair access to the Centre. Library, Common Room, Lecture Room, kitchen point and toilet facilities on ground floor plus further Lecture Rooms, kitchen point and toilet facilities on first floor. There is however, as yet, no wheelchair access to toilet facilities.
