This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with only a distant memory of sewing perhaps from schooldays. In this five-week evening beginners dressmaking course, the student will acquire and develop confidence in using the sewing machine successfully and making a garment using standard dressmaking techniques and equipment.

Those with their own sewing machine are welcome to bring it to the lesson.  

You will be provided with the pattern, and all you will need to bring is the fabric.  You will be given guidance for choosing fabric before the start of the course.

• Learn how to make a skirt from a paper pattern and add features of construction such as a  zipper fastening and waistband.
• You will be shown step-by-step how to make the skirt from laying out the pattern pieces on the fabric, to cutting out and marking the fabric using tailor's tacks and machine-stitching the garment together.
• You will  be taught the correct way of using tailor's scissors to cut out each pattern piece accurately and neatly.
• You will learn how to use the sewing machine correctly.

This is an interesting and friendly class to help you make your own clothes.

Class sizes are small.

Many  students progress to my Intermediate Course after finishing this course.

 You will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
