The study plan The personal stylist course is made up of 10 modules that fit together to deliver a complete training package. Module 1: Optical Illusions The first and largest of the 10 modules covers fashion design, basic garment cuts and the effects that lines (horizontal, vertical, diagonal and coloured) have on clothing. You’ll learn all the basics that will enable you to quickly help clients enhance their best features and disguise their worst. Module 2: Body Shapes Learn how to identify the seven main body shapes and what clothing lines/designs suit each of these figure types best. Module 3: Face Shapes Discover the five different face shapes and how each of these can be enhanced by choosing the best necklines and collars. Module 4: Scale, Balance and Proportions Body scale can be small, medium or large. In this module, you’ll learn how to establish someone’s scale, and balance up the body, where necessary. Module 5: Style Personalities Here you’ll learn six different shopping style personalities and how to uncover each to identify what makes people feel comfortable and confident. You’ll also cover off celebrities’ style personalities and the best shops for clients to go to access their style. Module 6: Fabric Learn how to choose the best fabrics, according to weight, texture, type, pattern and print. You’ll also discover the true meaning of ‘bias’. Module 7: Figure Problems Covers eight of the most common figure problems and how you can disguise these areas using the right styles. Module 8: Basic Garment Designs This module will teach you the correct names for over 200 different garments – from trousers and dresses to coats and skirts. Module 9: Skirt/Trouser/Sleeve Lengths Here you’ll learn the industry terms for different lengths of skirts, trousers and sleeves. Module 10: Other Style Essentials The final module covers valuable added hints and tips on body shape and style. The assessment A series of multiple choice questions will test your understanding as you learn. There is also a personal assignment to complete at the end of the course. On successful completion of the training, you’ll receive a Stylus Parties personal stylist certificate as proof of your qualification.
No experience or specialist skills are required to be accepted onto the course – just bags of enthusiasm, a natural flair for style and a good eye for colour. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age.
