The Basic Life Support course is ideal for those whom need to understand the basics of first aid. The 2-hour programme provides attendees with Basic First Aid skills in line with current UK Resuscitation Council guidance and focuses on immediate priorities and initial, time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is bleeding severely or has become unconscious. Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify that prompt, effective actions can greatly increase the chance of survival. Our BLS course meets the recommendations for training an 'Appointed Person' in basic first aid skills as detailed in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L74. The Basic Life Support programme content includes: Definition of Basic Life Support, Importance of self-protection and use of barriers, How to recognize a casualty, D.R.A.B.C. (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation), Unconscious Casualties and Recovery Position, Adult CPR, Chain of Survival, Basic Bleeding Control, Dealing with choking and other emergencies such as Electrocution, Drowning, Hanging. All participants are continually assessed during the course and a certificate will be awarded on successful completion.
