Bangor University Overview
Bangor University offers a quality learning experience in a quality environment for over 10,000 students from all over the world. Situated between Snowdon and the sea, Bangor is one of the most attractive study locations in the UK, while the University prides itself on a long tradition of academic excellence. Over half of the departments have received an Excellent rating for the quality of teaching, while Bangor’s performance in the Research Assessment Exercise confirms its status as a world class research institution.
Bangor also prides itself on the high priority placed on caring for and supporting students. Bangor has one of the largest Peer Guiding schemes of any university, with 2nd and 3rd year students involved in a mentoring scheme to help new students settle in during their first weeks. With the Personal Tutor system, there is always another student or a member of staff that students can turn to for help and advice. Bangor University has been ranked 10th in the UK for student experience (Times Higher Education Supplement) and a survey of the best student rated university towns and cities in the UK (according to the facilities and location) has Bangor as one of the best places to study in the country ('Accommodation for Students' website). Extra financial support for students is provided with over £2.5M in bursaries and scholarships available each year (see www.bangor.ac.uk/studentfinance/).
