Linguistics

"One of my friends had chosen Bangor and I decided to have a look. The size of the city and the area were the main reasons I chose Bangor, as well as the style and nature of the course.
The first year of my course allowed a fair amount of flexibility, there are a lot of module choices, so you can’t get bored. In my first year, I was able to study a History module and an Intermediate Welsh module, as well as the core Linguistics modules. The School of Linguistics is quite small and it's so easy to get to know all the staff and develop a good working relationship with the School; it is a very friendly place to study. You’ll never be just another face in the crowd to the lecturers here. The lecturers are very passionate about their areas of expertise and the administration staff are extremely knowledgeable, everyone is happy to help."

Design & Technology Secondary Education

"I chose Bangor because I used to come down to north Wales often on holiday and I love the area. I found the University to be not too small but not too big which is a big benefit, as well as everyone here being really friendly. The scenery is amazing; having the Menai Straits on one side and then being able to then turn 180 degrees to see Snowdonia is fantastic. The nightlife is good too and everywhere in Bangor is within walking distance.
The Design & Technology Secondary Education course is hard work but then again, I’m training for two qualifications at once (my degree and my qualified teacher status). The best thing about my course is the teaching practise where we go out into schools. It is an amazing experience. The School of Education at Bangor is quite small, as a year group we regularly go out and socialise. The lecturers are keen to help you as much as possible and the links they have with the schools in the area are good which enables you to have a positive teaching practise."
