Bangor University Entertainment
Student life in Bangor is both lively and friendly. The compact size and relaxed nature of Bangor means students settle in quickly, and there’s no shortage of things to do, with an active Students’ Union providing much of the focus on the entertainment front. The Union has its own 1,000 capacity nightclub called Amser/Time. There are also regular dance and 60s, 70s and 80s nights, while the annual Summer Ball is one of the biggest nights of the year when the entertainment and end-of-term celebrations continue well into the next day.
Bangor is well-situated and well-equipped for all sports, from team sports such as rugby, football and hockey to those involving the great outdoors, such as golf, rowing, mountain-walking, sailing and surfing. Facilities include a sports centre (with fitness rooms, squash courts and climbing walls), sports pitches and an athletics track. There is a range of sports clubs, from archery to water polo, and the University also offers annual Sports Scholarships.
The various student-run clubs and societies cover a range of hobbies, interests and activities, including archaeology, film, photography, drama, role-playing, and yoga. The town itself offers a good mix of national and local shops, as well as plenty of student pubs and cafe-bars. As one of the most scenic locations in the UK, the surrounding area also offers plenty to explore - even for those who are not into outdoor pursuits. There's enough to do and see in and around Snowdonia - from historical castles to seaside towns and beautiful beaches, while the port of Holyhead is a starting point for day trips to Ireland
