This course is primarily consisting of practical units with theory units in photographic design/history/context and visual language. The course is very comprehensive and robust covering traditional film and darkroom techniques alongside current trends in digital imaging and editing. Students will study areas including photographic design, history of photography, context, visual language, traditional film techniques, darkroom techniques, digital imaging and editing. On successful completion of the course they could progress to university or enter a wide range of employment opportunities within the media industry.
Students must have four GCSEs at grade C or above, or a BTEC first certificate or diploma in a related subject, an interview - a portfolio of film-based images (use disposable cameras if they do not own a film camera) and digital images, examples of essays and creative sketch/workbooks from GCSE work and a school report, a 500-word review of a relevant gallery exhibition.
