This course is to gain a broad knowledge of design, as well as the ingredients for a diverse portfolio of work which will enable them to progress to university. It is a creative graphics course aimed at giving them a broad knowledge of design and its related subjects. It will cover the following subject ideas and concepts, typographic design, information graphics, historical and contextual understanding and visual communication. It will provide the ingredients for diverse portfolio’s which enable students to progress straight to university. They will study areas including visual recording, contextual influences, computers in art, ideas and concepts, graphic image making, materials, techniques and processes, type and letter, design methods, words and images, information graphics, visual communication, typographic design, 3D applications, lens-based image making, design for advertising, personal and professional development, art and design exploration, application, realisation (double unit). They may progress to higher education such as BA (Hons) graphic design degree and could enter employment or pursue an apprenticeship.
