This is a practical, work-related course which will provide the students with an understanding of children’s early development, care and education. They will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. It introduces them to the employment area related to care and education in the early years, and provides a good basis to go on to study for a more advanced work-related qualification. Topics include understanding children’s development; keeping children safe; communication with children and adults; preparing and maintaining environments for child care; professional development, roles and responsibilities.
Students should be aged between 16 to 18 years and they should have levels 1-2 in English or Maths, or 4 GCSE subjects at grade D or Merit/Distinction from a Level 1 course.
