This course is designed to cater for school leavers or other new entrants, keen to progress towards careers in the public and uniformed services. Students will be expected to have some experience of personal involvement in activities such scouts, guides and/or youth service activities with the various uniformed services. It is designed to provide a realistic expectation of a career in these areas. It is very practical and allows students to experience a wide variety of sports, fitness training and outdoor activities. It provides links to a variety of further qualifications should students decide not to enter one of the services upon completion. It includes the following core units: public service skills, career planning for the public services, improving health and fitness for entry to the uniformed public services, employment in the uniformed public services and specialist units: sport and recreation in the public services, land navigation by map and compass, expedition skills in public services.
