In addition to courses listed below students can choose courses from other subjects at levels 1 & 2, although physics is recommended, and are not committed to specific degree subjects until level 3; this allows students flexibility to choose between different degrees available within faculty.
Level 1: Includes calculus (differentiation and integration of function of 1 real variable) and topics in algebra and geometry such as complex numbers, matrices and 3-dimensional geometry; astronomy 1; physics modules recommended. Level 2: Algebra and calculus; options in biological modelling; financial modelling; mechanical modelling; astronomy modules. Levels 3 (BSc) and 4 (Hons/MSci): Wide range of topics biased towards applicable mathematics such as magnetohydrodynamics and mathematics of information technology; selected options in astronomy.
