Course Description
This highly flexible course offers entry to higher education in art and design regardless of age, gender, personal circumstances, or social or cultural background. During the course you will experiment with a wide range of disciplines, acquiring the skills, knowledge and experience to build a portfolio suitable for progression to HND and BA (Hons) courses in all areas of art and design. Alternatively, you may be planning to gain entry to a range of arts and media subjects, and to courses leading to teaching. Although your pathway through this course will depend on your mode of attendance, the broad structure will be the same. The first part of the course is diagnostic and general. In the second part, you will work on an individual programme, assembling your portfolio before applying to a course of higher education. Teaching and learning focuses on project work in the studios and workshops. This is complemented by research, art and design history and self-directed study. The course is divided into modules, each of which involves an assignment. The final assessment culminates in a public exhibition. If you gain at least one Distinction and four Merits on the course you may progress directly to an appropriate undergraduate course within BIAD.
