This course covers a range of interactive approaches towards design and textile appreciation. Research projects focus on accessories, interiors and fashion, allowing for the exploration of fashion illustration and research of textile history. Participants will learn to use a diverse range of materials and techniques which will result in outcomes demonstrating a personal reflection of the expressive qualities of textiles. The following applications will be covered: Dyed application: Batik, silk painting, tie-dye, Print making: block, screen, transfer, mono, Constructed: sewing (hand and machine), embroidery, appliqué, knitting, weaving and felt making, Multi-media: Layering, surface texture and decoration, etc. On successful completion they can progress to specialize in either Interiors or Fashion Design and create a related Personal Study along with an exciting and dynamic portfolio of work revolving around independent interests and the development of design concepts.
