This course will appeal to the adventurous beginner and those with more experience. It is a course to build on the basics of drawing and painting by developing your observational skills, increasing concentration, visualisation, creativity and develop your imagination.

You will engage in projects such as working in large scale, expressive art and mark-making as a physical activity made with the whole arm (not merely the hands and fingers). Observational drawing and imaginative working methods will be employed. You will be painting in the art school atmosphere, with the opportunity to engage with the basic handling of materials and processes through a selection of tried and tested exercises. You will be encouraged to look closely and respond to your own environment and cultural experiences.

Throughout the course you are encouraged to assemble images and identify potential subject matter. You will find it beneficial to complete homework and reflect on your work between sessions. In addition to the projects there will be critiques at the end of some sessions.

This is a hands-on course and could be a means to progression within fine art and the broader context of art. By the end of the course you will have created a portfolio of new, innovative work and documented collaborations.
