Course Description
(subject to confirmation) A particular feature of the KSA research degree programme is the possibility of undertaking research by design, where research output combines written analysis with design work. Written work as part of a thesis incorporating design work includes a retrospective analysis of process and result, reflecting on chosen methodologies, the definition of processes, evaluation and contextualisation of the work. The School is keen not to apply prescriptive models of creativity and reflection but to enable you to develop your own design and reflective approaches and substantiate these through your design and writing. In the first year you take the modules in the Humanities research training programme, and architecture research skills (subject-specific). In addition, you can also take research method modules offered by other departments in the University as appropriate to your subject. KSA incorporates the European Architecture Research Institute (EARi) within the School.
