Students are introduced to the principal areas of study, including architectural design (involving considered responses to sites and briefs of increasing scale and complexity); structural, constructional and environmental criteria; historical cultural and social considerations; and professional and management studies; sustainability is a key element throughout all constituent modules and studio teaching; in addition, skills attainment is an important facet of the course, with an emphasis on information retrieval and management, communication, personal and inter-personal, employment and professional skills.
The structure of the course is primarily based on core modules of 15 and 30 credits; however, students also chose 1 option module at levels 5 and 6, each of which are determined by their choice of pathway; option modules are integrated within concurrent design projects together with the knowledge, skills and abilities generated by lectures in the core modules.
