Archaeology students examine evidence of past human activity from, for example, settlements, burials or artefacts; the course involves investigating the economic and social patterns of the making and use of these, and the relationship of humans with the environment; the modules offer coverage from earlier prehistory to the late Middle Ages, a strong practical emphasis and focus on Irish archaeology; the emphasis within the Irish and Celtic studies course is on modern Irish language and literature, and on other aspects of contemporary Irish culture and society; a window on the Ireland of earlier centuries is provided by the study of Old and Middle Irish, and on the broader Celtic world by 3 of the other Celtic languages: Scottish Gaelic, Welsh and Cornish.
