The programme contains extensive fieldwork, museum work and artefact care, providing the opportunity for students to undertake surveys and discover the practical essentials of archaeological work. Students will receive a good grounding in world archaeology and scientific archaeology, particularly environmental archaeology - a hot topic of our present age. Another special feature is a module on archaeology and modern popular media. This one year programme is equivalent to the final year of a degree course. Students should have already completed a Foundation Degree or HND in a relevant subject. Practical skills such as fieldwork, museum work, media presentation, environmental archaeology and conserving monuments are also a core component. Local employers will be involved in the development of these skills. Students will undertake research into a topic of their own choosing under the guidance of staff for presentation as a dissertation. This helps students apply the skills learnt in other modules and have a tangible record of their capabilities to show to future employers.
GCSE Level: Normally English and Maths at Grade C or above or Equivalent qualification. Together with one of the following: A Foundation Degree in a related topic or A HND in a relevant topic by interview. Please note, additional costs may be incurred for the required CRB Criminal Records Bureau check and if any equipment, resources or trips need to be purchased.
