Course Description
The MA in Archaeology is an excellent basis for further research, but is also available as a freestanding programme. It is suitable for graduates in Archaeology or a related subject who wish to study new areas, or to deepen their knowledge of a particular subject. Specialisms offered reflect the School's research interests, especially in Mediterranean Archaeology; Egyptology; Near Eastern Archaeology; early prehistory and material culture. Students are encouraged to spend a minimum of four weeks working in the field or in a museum. The MA in Archaeology consists of 12 units of study: Research skills I and II (15 credits each) Taught modules (90 credits in total) 4 weeks of fieldwork or museum placement (non-assessed, optional) Dissertation (15,000-20,000 words) (60 credits).

Entry Requirements
Taught degree entry requirements: a 2.i or equivalent undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study. All graduates of non-UK universities are required to provide evidence of satisfactory communications skills in English language. A typical requirement is an IELTS score of 6.5; TOEFL paper-based score of 570; TOEFL computer based score of 230; TOEFL internet-based score of 88-89; or GCSE grade C. Students whose test score is slightly below these entry requirements may be able to take the university English language preparation course in the summer before studies commence as an alternative to achieving the higher score.
