This course combines the physical sciences with archaeology and biological anthropology to give students a broad science-based view of the past which ranges from learning the latest cutting edge analytical techniques in science through human evolution to regionally-defined archaeology; year 1 provides a foundation in archaeology, biological anthropology and geology; years 2 and 3 provide more focused scientific units, with optional choices that allow some specialisation in archaeology, biological anthropology or earth sciences; field courses run each year; in year 3 students undertake a dissertation which is a novel piece of research.
