Course Description
This programme is aimed at graduates who want to develop their knowledge of the principles and application of geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing to real world problems. The focus is on the collection, management and analysis of spatial data and the development of technical and professional skills that can be used in the work-place or in research. A part-time pathway is provided for those in employment who wish to develop new skills, or to refresh their knowledge, in these areas. The course consists of both core and optional elements. The core focuses on the development of knowledge and skills in GIS and Remote Sensing. The optional element of the course allows students to develop skills in related areas such as Information Technology or Environmental Science. Core modules include: Environmental GIS; Environmental Remote Sensing; Spatial Data Analysis and Visualisation; Applied GIS and Remote Sensing Project; Dissertation. Optional modules include: Environmental Impact Assessment; Water Resource Management; Programming Techniques and Algorithms; Laboratory and Field Methods and Techniques. In addition, all students submit a dissertation based on an original piece of research for the award of the MSc. No previous knowledge of GIS or remote sensing is required but applicants should have good range of general IT skills. GIS and remote sensing are now key technologies in a range of fields including environmental impact assessment, ecological surveying, water resource management, forestry and conservation, and rural and urban planning.

UK/EU students: £3,600 per year, full-time. £1,750 per year, part-time.

Assessment method
The course is assessed primarily through coursework including project reports, seminar presentations and reviews.
Entry Requirements
A Bachelor's degree with honours (or equivalent) in geography, environmental science or other relevant subjects. An ordinary/pass degree/HNC/HND with relevant experience. We welcome applications from students with alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience, subject to approval through a process of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). International students must provide evidence of proficiency in English IELTS 6.0 band score or a score of TOEFL at 550 or above (213 computer based) with a TWE of 4.0 or above are proof of this. If your current English language qualification is below this level, you may be able to take one of the many pre-sessional English courses in our School of Languages.

Childcare facilities are available on site. Early booking of sessions is strongly recommended due to high demand of limited places. Guidance and advice may be available for all aspects of student life. Facilities/Support are available for students with learning difficulties.
