The Anthropology course aims to answer some of the big questions of life, such as what is it to be human, what is culture, what are our origins and what is our future; the course tries to answer these questions by closely comparing animal and human societies and by looking at the variety of human cultures, assessing whether the world's cultures divide us or whether we share properties that can unite the world; students also consider whether division by gender, race, class or belief is inevitable, and how the details of our lives are affected by global forces; the Cultural Studies course is concerned with the question of who runs things and how they do it; it looks at the many ways in which the world is changing, why it is changing, and in whose interests it is changing.
