Students on this programme are taught through lectures and seminars and have the opportunity to work in wet and computing labs; fieldwork and project work are be enhanced by a number of UK study trips; throughout the programme there is an important emphasis on developing students� practical skills and critical awareness of the problems of highly internationalised research fields; and they have the flexibility to choose courses both within their own specialisation and from others in order to customise your skill set.
Key research skills (scientific writing; introduction to R; advanced linear models; experimental design and power analysis); animal ethics; animal welfare science; legislation related to animal welfare; and a research project; optional courses: evolution: pattern and process; measuring biodiversity and abundance; enrichment of animals in captive environments; care of captive animals; biology of suffering; assessment of physiological state; conservation genetics and phylodynamics; introduction to Bayesian statistics; spatial processes; multi-species models; single-species population models; programming in R; infectious disease ecology and the dynamics of emerging disease; phyloinformatics; freshwater sampling techniques; marine sampling techniques; vertebrate identification; invertebrate identification; molecular analyses for DNA barcoding and biodiversity measurement.
